AMBASSADOR

FELIPE BULNES

 

            

               Felipe Bulnes, born in Santiago, Chile, 1969, is the Ambassador of Chile to the United States.

           

            He graduated with a Law degree from the Catholic University of Chile (1991).  Mr. Bulnes was the recipient of the Catholic University of Chile Scholarship (1995), and in the same year he was also awarded the Fulbright scholarship.  During 1995-1996 he studied at Harvard Law School, where he obtained a Master in Laws (LL.M).

            Ambassador Bulnes held various political positions in his country.  Among them, member of the Political Commission of the Renovación Nacional Party elected for 3 successive periods (2001-2010); Director of the Law and Justice Chapter of the Grupos Tantaucos organization, in charge of preparing the presidential program of then candidate Sebastián Piñera (2008-2010); Minister of Justice (March 2010 -July 2011), and Minister of Education (July 2011-December 2011).

He worked for several renowned law firms in Chile, being his latest position a Senior Partner with Bulnes, Pellegrini, and Urrutia (2006-2010).

            Ambassador Bulnes has a prestigious academic career, that includes positions as Professor of Civil Law as well as Professor of Law and Economics at the Catholic University of Chile, and the Adolfo Ibáñez University; speaker at different Seminars on antitrust, tax, commercial regulation, and civil law.  He is the author of several articles and papers on legal issues, and is ranked among the top litigation lawyers by many international and national legal publications.

            Ambassador Bulnes has also been a member of the Board of the Chilean Bar Association (2001-2005); member of the Arbitration Body of the National Arbitration Center and the Santiago Chamber of Commerce (2006 and 2009, respectively); member of the legal chapter of ICARE (Association that promotes the principles and values of private enterprise, and gathers the most prominent companies in Chile); member of the Consulting Board of the School of Government at the Adolfo Ibáñez University (2008-2010); member of the Antitrust Chapter of the Chilean Bar Association (2008-2010).

           

            He is married to Mónica Pellegrini and they have a son.
